vinos valtuille is a small family winery that was founded at the beginning of the century. its founder, marcos garcĂa is part of a new generation of winemakers from bierzo who are standing strong within the world of wine. the climate of el bierzo is characterized between continental and atlantic, ideal for the cultivation of vines and grapes because of the excellent level of humidity coupled with adequate rainfall and relatively low temperatures. this 100% mencia is made with grapes from old vines, some of which are over 80 years old, situated on south facing slopes at altitudes between 600 and 700 metres. this silky red is fruit-driven and juicy with notes wild berries, herbs and spice.

orto vins was founded by joan asens and three of his winegrower friends with long family histories in wine. joan was the former winemaker at alvaro palacios in priorat and creator or l’ermita. ortovins make wines following biodynamic methods and with absolute respect for the vineyard and the earth. the vines are up to 100 years old and are planted at high altitudes making for brilliantly structured and fresh wines. made of 90% garnacha (grenache) and accented with cariñena (carignan) and aged in old french casks, this is a full bodied wine with balanced acidity, dark berry and spice notes and supple tannins.

both descended from families of winemakers, miguel plates and javier ballesteros decided one day to unite their knowledge and passion for wine and grape in a project full of enthusiasm to produce quality wines. bodegas hornillos is a small “garage winery” (garagiste) in the town of roa, and is one of the most artisanal producers in ribera del duero. in concept, neither a business nor a factory, this tiny garage is a place where raw material, selection and precision culminate in great wine making. this wine is made from 50-75-year-old tempranillo vines planted at 700-900 meters. it’s dry, bright, full of concentrated dark fruit and notes of forest floor and herbs and a graphite minerality.
