weingut roterfaden was founded in 2014 by hannes hoffmann and olympia samara: he’s from rosswag, germany and she’s from greece. they met while studying oenology, fell in love, and travelled and worked in california, south africa, austria, spain and greece looking for perfect place to set up a small, hands-on estate for themselves before realizing what they were looking for was right in front of them in rosswag. the village of rosswag is a viticultural treasure, surrounded by an amphitheater of vines and with only 1200 inhabitants. most of the terraced vineyards (99%) are farmed by co-op members; roterfaden is the one exception. the roterfaden and rosswag is a vineyard project (vp) collaboration between hannes, olympia and the rosswagcooperative. the vineyard project is about the community, the village and the people behind the wine, started in 2019 as a way of connecting soulful yet overlooked vineyards with soulful growers - when the vineyards are healthy and prosperous, so is the community, and when the people working in the vineyards are being paid a living wage for this work, the community is healthy and sustainable. the project now stretches from germany’s mosel to austria’s burgenland. this blend of mostly lemberger (aka blaufrankisch) has lively, refreshing acidity and a depth of fresh red fruit and mineral flavors!

this winery was founded by three siblings of the family schdöl – mathias, viktoria and leonard – all with a heart and love for wine, the dedication to nature and it‘s power and honest craftsmanship to bring pure and genuine wine into the bottle. the repeated name 'dorf dorf dorf' emphasizes the wine's humble, traditional, and local roots and it communicates that the grapes come specifically from vineyards located within the village area ('dorf' is german for 'village' and 'dorflagen' means 'village locations/sites'). this 100% st. laurent is juicy and spicy with, sour cherry, and bramble berry fruit.

péter toth founded kőfejtő pince in 2008 and cultivates the vineyards on his own with the support of his family - his wife vera, who is a scientist, and their two daughters. - adhering to organic viticulture practices. one standard practice he consistently incorporates in the vineyard is leaving his grapes completely covered with foliage in order to combat the heat that beats down on the hill, and thus, preventing the grapes from ripening prematurely. peter’s respect for the land and love for viticulture as well as his simple hands-on approach make him a well-respected winemaker on the hill, and throughout hungary. this cuvee is a blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon grapes that were sourced from the volcanic basalt soil on the southwestern sides of somló’s ság hill, which is the warmest part of the somló hill. this is a doubly uncommon wine, since red grapes are not very common on somló hill, and syrah is not very common in hungary. it's lush but lively with a ripe fruitiness, ripe tannins, and an elegant acidity (thanks to the minerals), which keeps the fruity flavors going for a long time. it can be closed at first, but after a few minutes it really transforms in the glass—the blackberries and blueberries change to currants, strawberries, and raspberries. this is a perfectly-made volcanic red wine, with a long and delicious mineral finish. it is pure somló, and reminiscent of wines from etna, the canary islands and other volcanic regions.

olivier roten is the third generation winemaker managing his family estate with his wife, laine (an american from seattle) in the valais, switzerland's largest grape growing region. olivier and laine met doing a wine studies program, and their love story evolved over a meal and a glass (many glasses) of swiss wine. not long after they were married, olivier and laine decided to create a line of wines that honored both their love story and the best of swiss winemaking traditions. the essence of oliver’s alpine roots - and avalanche was born to help others identify with this classic taste of swiss heritage and the roten’s ongoing love story with its wine. this elegant 100% pinot noir is medium bodied with bright red fruit and lifted notes of vanilla and spice.
